In the interview i found out that Sherman Dolman was born in Germany and came over by The Oregon Trail. He never saw Native Americans before and was scared when he did. He also got to see cattle both alive and dead. He learned how to be a blacksmith from his father. In 1870 Sherman had witnesses the first railroad that carried people. Later in 1875 that railroad had stopped working due to grasshoppers. In 1910 he became interested in painting and he experienced one of the worst depressions. He lived on corn-meal and walked around with no shoes on. He said this happened because of the grasshoppers.
My impression of the interview was that Sherman Dolman was a hard working man but when the depression hit he lost it all. He had two great jobs and witnessed new things. He was happy. Then his life turned around. He had no good food and barely any clothes. If that was me I don't know what i would've done. I probably would've starved myself but I know that my feet would hurt a lot. I think it was wonderful that Sherman decided to share his experience with the world. It's really interesting to see life through someone else's eyes.
